New Publication in the Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology

I am delighted to announce the publication of our article, “Risk Factors for Shoulder Pain and Stiffness in Adults Aged 44 and Older: An 11-Year Longitudinal Population-Based Study,” in the Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology.

Reflecting on this journey, I am reminded of my recent trip to Sicily, where I cycled up Mount Etna—35 kilometers of uphill climbing with a 2000-meter ascent. Much like my February summit of Mount Agung in Bali, which symbolized the end of my medical school journey, this writing process also felt like conquering a mountain.

The path to publication spanned many years, and at times it seemed unending. But, as with Etna, I wasn’t climbing alone. My co-authors were there to guide, and motivate me at every stage.

Markku, with his expertise and knowledge of the data from his long history at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, laid the groundwork for the study. Rahman and Danielle brought insightful perspectives on methodological rigor, ensuring the research stayed true to its purpose. Lasse and Thomas, like skilled pro-cyclists alongside a novice rider, patiently taught me how to navigate the complexities of scientific writing. Lasse, joining the writers became the energy gel that pushed us through those final stretches.

At the helm, leading the FICEBO research group, Simo and Professor Teppo ensured that this project was carefully planned and executed. Their guidance and vision made it possible for an inexperienced student to reach this milestone.

The view from here—our published work—is incredible. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come. To my co-authors: thank you for your support and dedication.
